What the track does
Each diode lives in a channel, not clipped to a gutter. That channel hides the hardware and aims the output. It gets painted to your trim color as part of the order, so the daytime house does not change.
Individual diodes, not one long bulb
The lights are individually controllable, which is where the effects come from. Without individual control you get one color across every foot of the run. With it, sections can differ. Most nights the fancy part goes unused, and that is fine.Look at somebody's finished work at noon rather than at nine, because night hides sloppy mounting and daylight does not.
What else gets installed
Behind the visible run there is a wire path, a power connection and a controller. Wire routing is where careful work shows, because a rushed job leaves it visible. It is worth asking and any installer should answer it without hedging.
Living with permanent hardware
Permanent means it stays, which cuts both ways. A system installed properly asks very little of you. A rushed one shows in the first summer, which defeats the entire point. The hardware is only half the purchase. The install is the rest.
Weather is what the hardware is up against
Permanent hardware takes whatever the year brings. Summer heat on a south facing roof edge is considerable, and heat is the enemy of anything with a circuit in it. Humidity is constant here, which is why connections and seals matter. The failure points are connections, not diodes.
Brightness is a setting, not a fixed value
These systems have adjustable brightness, which is worth knowing before you decide anything. Full brightness is for December, and it is far more light than an ordinary evening wants. Most people settle at a fraction of full output, since restraint is what makes it look considered.
Getting a design
